For every one that is excited about the fact The Black Panther film is opening this weekend, there are about another 5 of us that have BEEN into science fiction and Black Science Fiction.
So we were high on Black Super Heroes before the BP buzz.
We want EVERYBODY to go out and take the whole family to see The Black Panther this weekend.
However, don't feel like you have to give up on Black Sci-Fi after.
Here are 4 Funky Things Plus One More to Keep Your Black Panther High up after the final credits.
4. The Big Tall Wish Episode Of The Twilight Zone
When it comes to sci-fi on TV. The Twilight Zone has a few close competitors but absolutely no piers.
There was one episode that many die hard fans have not seen called The Big Tall Wish.
This classic half hour drama features the great Ivan Dixon as a boxer that gets a late round save from The Twilight Zone.
3. Verb That's What's Happening from School House Rock
Hardly seems like 40 years ago, that ABC came out with the cartoon short segment School House Rock. If you have not shared this series with your kids? You are depriving them. Though we must assume the hero here is named VERB...I knew this song word for word before I could read my first comic. This is still one of the most fun ways I can amuse myself in under 5 minutes.
2. Who Is The Black Panther By Reginald Hudlin and John Romita Jr. The Trade PaperBack
As I have stated before (4 Cool Thing You May Not Have Known About The Black Panther) Reginald Hudlin's concept of The Black Panther and his story is really what made this character work the best for MARVEL.
Yes , The Black Panther was created by Jack Kirby. There were a couple of interesting stories before Reginald and John's.... however.
NO ONE!
Handled The Black Panther with the respect, style and stone cold cool that Reginald Hudlin had before.
Thanks to Hudlin, The Black Panther passed by Power Man as Marvel's coolest Black hero.
The collection of stories from Reginald Hudlin were my favorite sci-fi of that year. They are still my favorite Black Panther stories.
If you enjoy the film? Check out this graphic novel to see why the film was even considered.
1. Brotherman Dictator Of Discipline: Graphic Novels By Dawud Anyabwile and Guy and Jason Simms.
I cannot stress enough. How important this book is to Black Sci Fi. Why there are people that have never heard of Brotherman I cannot understand.
This is what you need to know.
Brotherman came out at a time when no one was checking for Black Super Heroes or Comics.
The current wave we have of quality art and story telling involving heroes of color...written by people of color is because of BROTHERMAN....PERIOD!!!!
It breaks my heart that so many properties like The Black Panther and Luke Cage have come to the big screen and small screen and yet the love for this series has not got its due.
Seriously. Every one that buys a ticket for The Black Panther should then go to a comic store or amazon or wherever you get your books and make sure you get the first Brotherman graphic novel.
This was the genesis that gave us a revolution in comics, sci-fi and TV and Film. Brotherman is Black History and I knew that from the time I picked up my first copy back in 1980-whatever.

The Eagles are now Super Bowl Champs. They won by beating Tom Brady and The Patriots. And Nick Foles, out Brady-ed , Brady. So you can believe as soon as Eagles Management got off the field cell phones started ringed with this question from perhaps 30 other NFL teams. "Soooooo. What are you thinking about doing with Carson Wentz?"
What I do know is that Carson Wentz and Nick Foles both want to know. I also know neither want to be the back up at the start of 2018.
